Cemetery News and History

In 1769 Jacob Downer and his wife sold to Garrett Fiscus and Christian Fox, trustees of Maytown Reformed Congregation, lots 173 &174 in Maytown proper for the expressed purpose of erecting a church for the congregation.

These two lot plots were soon the site of a clapboard structure which became the regular meeting place of a small but committed and convicted congregation. As the years progressed, it was apparent there was a need for a place to bury those who passed and whose families wanted to keep them close to the congregation that they loved and grew up in.

“God’s Little Acre” would soon become the final resting place for many a prominent East Donegal/Maytown citizen and Reformed Christian. Several early settlement families, the Haines, Albright, and Endslow families all have a large contingent of their members buried there.

The cemetery also has a direct connection to our nation’s history as well. The veterans that are interred there are heroes that represent every branch of service (excluding the newly created Space Force) and every conflict our country has been involved in from the Revolutionary to the Gulf War.
